It takes one (an encourager) to know one! God bless the work of your hands, Dean, there at Dayton Christian - as you "circle the wagons" to celebrate fifty years around the fire of God's faithfulness! (Can't seem to express myself lately without a picture!)

Hi Brenda! Loved seeing this picture you refer to on Sunday at church:) Indeed your picture of the Master bending down to put his face next to this dirty but devoted follower, beautifully illustrates the other side of the invaluable coin of our obedience to God - His complete, loving commitment to us. God bless you for taking the time to share it!

Thanks Marty, for the great word pictures! As a teenager, I was in a youth group meeting where we were challenged to find pictures in old magazines that would help define our images of God. I found one that captured my heart (more like stabbed it), although the symbolism felt overwhelmingly too good to be true. It was more of a dream...what I secretly wished God would be to me. It was a picture of a man bent over, smiling, and petting a wet, dirty, pitiful looking dog. You could see the pure love the master had for this filthy mess of a thing. I still have that picture to this day. And I think God loves me however I come to Him. Thanks for reminding me!

Had a nice card from your daughter and she referred to your new blog - was on tonight, so I thought about sending you an email thanking you and your daughter for the card and the interesting blog. Did you have a nice Thanksgiving? Hope your doing fine this holiday season. After looking through your blog, you have already encouraged many, many people about Jesus and His saving grace. Just want to encourage you to continue this wonderful ministry because it will help others who may be discouraged and lonely.

How wonderful to hear from you Carolyn! You're right - we never should be surprised when God parts the veil of Heaven and speaks to us through a chosen "land-line." Yet our flesh does work to convince us that God's too busy to stop and encourage us in such a personal way. Indeed - every time God "direct dials" my heart - I marvel - as though it was the first time :) Great is the Lord - and WORTHY of GLORY. Tonight we celebrated my Mom's birthday with twenty-four members of our family - including seven of Mom's great grandchildren. We took the time to take a long, leisurely walk down memory lane. It's fitting that the minute I saw your name - I thought back to the years when God used your angelic voice to tenderly calm my heart during a storm. I remember Mom stopping by your house and wanting to catch a glimpse of you from the car. I wanted to see the face of the one God used to charm my fears and bid my sorrows cease. The song you sang, "Fear not tomorrow," reminds me still - as you mentioned - we've nothing at all to fear! God bless you for all the hurting hearts you've blessed and please give my love to your family!

Dear Marty ~ This is my first visit to your blog, per directions from your sweet Mom. You would be surprised to know how appropriate your "The Perfect Storm" devotional is today, but when The Blessed Holy Spirit is directing, we should never be surprised, should we? Borrowing words from a song...."If The Master of the sea is also my Pilot, I've nothing at all to fear". Many thanks for sharing your insights. May The Hand of God rest on you as you continue to serve Him!

Thank you for sharing that story Dean :) I often say my greatest teaching tools - inside and outside my family - have been my failures. I think it's critical that parents let kids see when they fall short of the mark. They need a living picture of the consequences of sin so they can make different decisions themselves. Parents typically think they have to do it all right to maintain their children's respect. When the opposite is actually true. I've always taught my kids that the standard is perfect - not me. Sometimes we'll hit it and sometimes we won't. Living by blind faith is scary for big and little bodies of flesh! We do our families such an injustice when we make the walk of faith look like a cake walk. All in all, no miserable experience is wasted when we LEARN from it. You did - your family is ALL the RICHER.
